Ski Egypt will open on 2nd March 2017, operators the Majid al Futtaim group have announced.
The first indoor snow slope in Africa, the opening means there have been indoor, year-round ski centres built on all six populated continents.
Ski Egypt is part of the new Mall of Egypt which has been created by the same group that runs Ski Dubai and is working on a third, similar facility in Saudi Arabia.
Besides the ski slope the 400,000 square metre complex will feature 350 shopping outlets, 50 restaurants, a 21 screen cinema and other attractions. It has cost 6.3 billion Egyptian Pounds (around £390m / €450m / $485m US) to build.
Africa is home to half-a-dozen conventional ski areas located in Algeria, Lesotho, Morocco and South Africa, as well as several dry slopes, and is the only continent with ski lifts operating in the winters of both the northern and southern hemispheres.
