An Italian contractor has won the contract to build a new mall in Dubai that will house the world’s longest indoor snow slope yet.
The Salini Impregilo group has signed a $435m contract with Meydan Group LLC to build the mall which is scheduled to be part of Dubai’s attractions set for Expo 2020.
The Meydan One Mall announced in 2015 that it would house a 1.2km long indoor snow slope, nearly twice as long as the 620-640m long current existing longest slopes in Europe.
A statement from the Italian company stated that the mall is part of a “massive urban development project” between Meydan and Al Khail Road and “is set to become Dubai’s number one attraction” when the first phase opens in 2020.
Salini Impregilo’s emit includes preparing the area for development by overseeing the excavations and building of the sub- and super-structures for the complex, including the foundations for the ski slope and the concrete support for the steel structure above the mall.
Construction is due to begin this year and finish in 2019 the company stated.
