Questions asked by Patrick SNOWHUNTER Thorne.

Name: Kees Albers      Born: 1953     Company: Unlimited Snow

How long have you worked in the industry?

* Almost since I was born, but professionally involved since 1980. (see CV)

Which is your favourite snowdome and why?

* None in particular at present, but a number of future snow domes show great promise to become a favourite due to more variety in slopes and activities as well as theming.

What first advice would you give anyone considering building or investing in a snowdome?

* Size and activities to be based on local market size, demographics and culture in order to be successful and have a good return on investment.
* Also focus on creating a total guest experience including service, amusement, entertainment and theming as well as variety of slopes and activities in order to encourage both repeat visitors and non-skier visitors.

What do you think are the commonest mistakes companies make when they design and build snow domes?

* Copying other snow domes including various mistakes instead of improving on them = looking back instead of forward.
* Focus on outside design rather than content = boring slopes and inside constructions.
* Missing out on large part of the market due to focus on sportive activities only with short seasonal demand = lack of general leisure market experience.
* Too high investments compared to market potential of sportive activities and at the same time saving money on other important aspects.

How would you like to see snowdomes develop in the future?

* Focus on being real snow & ice amusement facilities themed as virtual Alpine or Arctic worlds including a variety of slopes for beginners to advanced as well as instant fun activities to accommodate much larger target groups.
